Just a very quick update to those of you who are following. Gatlinburg is not ready to have gas turned back on yet (fires still burning), so we are heading to Houston. Hope to get there by the end of the week (about 830 miles to go). Still planning to travel with serendipity, covering 100-150 miles a day and staying in rest areas or Walmarts.

Update - drove about 110 miles to a Walmart just over the border of Georgia and Alabama where we will stay the night. Just as we crossed over the border, we also changed time zones, so we're back in Central time. It was a difficult drive as it was raining all the way. This is the forecast for the rest of the week, unfortunately. I did all the driving. Mitch is coming down with bronchitis and is not feeling well :(
