Steps, birds, Dr. results, rehitcing, sewer line, beach, Gail & Jack -Day 160

I forgot to mention yesterday that after all was said and done in getting the CoW into the site, we couldn't enter because a bolt fell off the steps.  Very fortunately, Mitch had the right sized bolt in his toolbox and was able to repair it.

We went to bed last night and woke to a very foul odor from the sewer line.  We were a little too far from the sewer connection.  Mitch attached all the hoses he had and he was able to make a secure connection, but I guess because it was stretched out so much, the angle was not good enough to properly drain (it needs gravity and was probably too straight).  The remedy was that it took us almost an hour this morning to rehitch the truck just to move the rig 5 feet back!  End result is that it's still not very good, after playing with it for about 2 more hours, including rerouting it under the RV (which meant being on his stomach under the trailer in the dirt).  Tomorrow he is going to try one more thing, and if it doesn't work, we may need to hitch up again and either position the rig in a different direction within the site or move to another site.

So many birds out this morning - mostly crows and sea gulls.  It truly reminded me of the Alfred Hitchcock movie ("The Birds") which has always freaked me out.  Whenever I see more than 5 birds sitting in 1 location, I get scared.  So it was pretty scary seeing millions (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration) of them on top of the trees, the ground and RVs.  A little while ago, I actually saw about 6 pelicans flying together!  And the ducks & geese seem to think they own the park, the way they walk all around.  This is really awesome.  Here are some photos of the ducks in the pond, geese around and about, and a crane.

Mitch saw the orthopedist this morning.  The results were that although there is arthritis, it isn't far enough along (not bone on bone) to warrant a replacement yet.  The reason, the doctor felt, is that the replacement would only last about 20-30 years and Mitch would most likely outlive that time and therefore need another replacement later.  Dr. prefers to wait as long as possible.  So shots it will be.  Just waiting for the insurance to give the preapproval.

After we returned from the doctor's office, I got on a conference call / training session with a new client and then did some work for another one.  Mitch was working on the sewer connection until 3:30, at which point he came inside, took a shower and a nap until 4:00.

When he woke up, we took a walk to the beach, which is the equivalent of about 2 blocks away.  It was high tide, so there wasn't much sand to walk on.  Below is a photo and video.

After that, we walked a little bit down from the beach and met a really lovely couple - Gail and Jack - who we met from our RVillage forum (that's an online community for RVers to get to meet each other).  They've only been full timing for a year but have visited most of the country already.  Jack gave Mitch a great suggestion regarding the sewer line (try using the vinyl gutter siding instead of the plastic "slinky" to hold the hose in place).  We went out this evening to Lowes to buy some so he can start working on it first thing in the morning.  Hopefully it will all go well so we can finish setting up house.
