Travel day 1 - Day 992 (Year 3, Day 260)

Atchafalaya, LA

That's a fun word to say!  We are in a rest stop here.  Very nice one.  Not the nicest I've ever seen, but pleasant enough to spend overnight (despite the noise from the trucks).

We didn't hit the road until close to 10:00.  It took us 3 hours to get ready, mostly because we had a bit too much to drink last night and were too lazy to chop up all the vegetables we planned to take as snack food, or make breakfast and lunch for the road.

Mitch took the first leg of the trip.  We were planning to stop at the first rest area listed as we got onto I-10, right across the TX border in Louisiana, which was 110 miles away.  Unfortunately, it was under construction and literally nothing was there except mounds of dirt and bull dozers.  He drove another 20 miles to an exit with a truck stop.  We were planning to just trade drivers, but they had gas (so we topped off the tank) and since they had a restaurant, we decided to treat ourselves and have lunch there (we both had omelets: me with tomato slices on the side - no bread or hash browns).

I took over the rest of the way until we reached this 2nd rest area, about 120 miles further.  And here we are.
